Timber Furniture Care

At YARD our aim is to create good quality, long-lasting furniture from recycled materials that will stand the test of time.

We finish our furniture pieces and bathroom vanities with Osmo Polyx oil which is a natural, low maintenance and extremely DIY friendly product.
Osmo Poly oils are based on natural oils and waxes including linseed, sunflower and thistle oil. Osmo is safe for humans, animals and plants when dry, and is also classified food safe.

In order to preserve the beauty of the natural timber, here are some steps you can take to make sure your Yard Furniture piece lasts for a long time to come.

When your furniture first arrives home it’s important to take some additional care while the Osmo finish is still in its curing process.
Avoid placing hot items like oven trays or casserole dishes directly on surfaces, and take care with abrasive objects like pottery when placing on surfaces.

Timber is a natural product that will respond to its environment. Timber products can expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity – such as proximity to radiators and central heating ducts.

Wipe any spills immediately with a damp cloth followed with a dry cloth.

Use a gentle cloth or microfibre to dust your YARD Furniture pieces. Try to avoid using a cloth which gets stuck in the textures of the timber.

As Osmo is a natural product, it’s advised to avoid using harsh chemicals to clean your pieces as they can affect the finish and lustre of the finish of your piece.  Osmo Spray Cleaner is designed specifically for use with Osmo finishes, and can be purchased directly through Osmo stockists.

Using lukewarm soapy water on a cloth or sponge to lightly clean your pieces is also ok. Be sure to follow with a dry cloth immediately and do not leave surface wet.

Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner is a product that can be used every 12 months to rejuvenate the finish and can be purchased directly through Osmo stockists.

Wipe all spills immediately with a damp (not wet) cloth followed by a dry cloth.

Avoid placing hot objects like pots and cooking items directly onto timber surfaces. They can burn the timber and damage the finish.  Warm mugs and plates are safe to place directly on tables, however if you want to increase the longevity placemats are recommended.

Take care when placing abrasive objects like ceramics and decorative objects on the table as they can scratch the surface.

Use a mat underneath your page when using writing materials on timber surfaces.

A cleaner designed specifically for hardwax finishes can be used. We recommend Osmo Spray Cleaner. Avoid heavy chemical cleaners.

Take care to not let water pool on bathroom vanities for too long.
This can cause water damage, and is not covered under warranty.
